We worked with historic Scottish mill, Halley Stevensons, to custom-make a high-end cotton & waxed finish shell called P400 Wax C4X. The end result is a weave that’s more tear-resistant than other waxed canvas we tested, and a harder and more crystalline wax than what is usually found in apparel.

The materials have held up so far and seem to be able to withstand many more years to come. As a daily commuter, it works well for my needs. Plenty of storage despite the fact that at first glance, it looks more like a smaller bag. Which I actually like because a bulky bag for work would be overkill.
I got the CPL 24 to replace a bag that I've been bringing to work for the past 7 years. That was also a waxed canvas bag, but was starting to feel a little too disorganized and small for my needs. This is my first Evergoods bag, and it has been a fantastic replacement. It is a beautiful bag and truly enjoyable to use and carry. I'm obviously a fan of waxed canvas bags, but this one really hits the mark for me, both in materials and in style. There is plenty of space inside to accommodate a water bottle if needed, but I really enjoy the aesthetic without the water bottle holder.
Got this as a replacement for my every day carry backpack. Typically I have 16” laptop and changers, charge block, various items, lunchbox, change of clothes., The CPL24L is the ideal size for this with room to spare. Thought I might miss having a cup holder, but honestly it’s been a non issue, the water bottle fits neatly inside along side my lunchbox. The build quality is best I’ve seen in a back pack. Materials and zips are the best. The ability to stand up on its own and the side access zippers make this bag so easy to use. Definitely recommend
Great bag! Exceptional materials.
Size and configuration of the CPL16 is perfect for EDC needs. I think it packs larger than most 16L bags on the market. I was surprised by how natural the transition to panel loading felt; I've never carried a briefcase, messenger bag, or other panel loader. I'm not going back now that I've lived the CPL life.
The obvious knock -- no water bottle space -- is a negative, but there's plenty of internal space for a well-sealed bottle.
My normal pack-out: MacBook Air 13", iPad Air 11", small packing cube, 2 small journals, assorted small bits. I still have room for a sweater and an Owala water bottle without the bag feeling overpacked.
love this bag, got it from a sample sale and have been loving the reinforced walls. Gives the bag great structure, something I've been looking for in a backpack.
Currently traveling in Europe. Going to be out of the country for 2 months and this bag has been solid! Fits everything I need. I’m also using a 10L packing cube from evergoods, a 2L CAP. Love the entire ecosystem. Don’t overthink it. Just buy it you won’t regret. Buy once cry once.
I love the look of the tan color and the layout! The fabric is also awesome, I got this and the CTB26. The CTB26 is probably more functional for me, but I liked the fabric and aesthetic on the CPL24 more. It feels like it’s really well made and is going to last forever. My complaints:
- the shoulder straps have flaps presumably for a camelback. I will never use that feature and the flacks stick up / are loose in a way that looks kinda dorky. I wish they weren’t there or at least didn’t stick up like they do
- the back panel has been fine so far, no issues, but not as comfortable as other packs.
- I wish there was something to hold the loose straps down on the shoulder straps. There’s a lot of extra material flapping around with the way I have the straps adjusted.
Overall a great bag and I’ll use it for a long time, but not 100% perfect!
The backpack is able to smartly hold all the contents of my previous bag (~35 liters!) with easy access. I love the front zipper pocket and the top easy load pocket. It holds together very well in spite of it being maxed out and the straps always feel cool when I throw it on. I've never been a key leash person but trying it out for the last 3 weeks has been fun. I'm torn on not having a dedicated bottle holder attached to the side. It is literally 50:50 in terms of function vs form/aesthetic. Form and aesthetic are edging out at 53%!
I look forward to using and developing this bag for the next decade.
**This Is How a Backpack Should Be Made**
Absolutely outstanding backpack. The waxed canvas completely changes the character of the CPL and takes an already excellent design to another level.
The P400 Wax C4X material feels substantial, rugged, and genuinely premium. This isn't a backpack that looks like every other modern nylon laptop bag. It has that old-school, well-made feel that is becoming harder and harder to find. The leather zipper pulls are a perfect finishing touch without being overdone.
What I really like is that the material is designed to develop character with use. Scratches, creases, and wear aren't going to ruin this bag—they're going to make it look better. It's the kind of backpack I expect to own for years and actually prefer after it's been broken in.
You still get everything that makes the CPL such a great everyday backpack: excellent organization, easy access, a comfortable fit, and a clean profile. But the waxed canvas gives it a completely different personality.
If you appreciate traditional materials, quality craftsmanship, and products that are made to age rather than be replaced, this one is hard to beat. Beautifully done and worth the premium.
**Outstanding Backpack — Premium Materials and Built to Last**
This is easily one of the best laptop backpacks I’ve owned. The X-Pac X42 material is fantastic—lightweight, extremely durable, and gives the bag a clean, premium look without being flashy. The stealth black exterior looks even better in person, and the coyote brown interior is a great touch because it makes everything inside much easier to see and find.
What really stands out is the attention to detail. The PU-coated YKK zippers feel substantial and add another level of weather protection, and the entire backpack feels incredibly well constructed. It holds everything I need without feeling bulky or overbuilt.
If you appreciate quality gear and want a laptop backpack that looks professional enough for work but is tough enough for travel and everyday use, this one absolutely delivers. It isn't inexpensive, but you can immediately see and feel where the money went.
Excellent design, excellent materials, and excellent build quality. I expect to be using this backpack for a very long time. Highly recommended.
Used it for years. Great aesthetics. When the zippers gave out, they refunded me my original purchase price, even though it was 8 years later. I will always be a fan of their company!
I’m honestly shocked with the amount of items you can fit into this bag. Every time I think I’ve found the limit, I can somehow fit more. I have used this bag in every scenario from everyday wear to climbing Mt. Fuji and it did everything excellently.
I have had the 24L pack for a while now, and it is an absolute beast. I'm always surprised how much this thing can hold! From home to work with my laptop, water bottle, lunch, and the 2L Civic Access Pouch, to trips packed down with clothes and a dopp kit, this pack has come through.
That said, it does have two significant downsides that kept me from giving it 5 Stars. The major problem is there's no luggage passthrough. When I have my roller luggage, I want to be able to sit my backpack upright on the top so that I have a slim profile walking through tight spaces like an airplane aisle. The other more minor problem is that there's no dedicated water bottle sleeve, even on the inside.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "You should have just got the Civic Travel Bag instead". Yeah, maybe, but the silhouette of this bag is so nice, and I'm a sucker for aesthetics. Plus, the luggage passthrough is horizontal, and I don't want to put my bag on its side.
Was initially hesitant given the price but I absolutely love this bag. I travel frequently for work and this is now my default carry on and office bag. Durable, compartments for everything I need even at 16L. Plus it just looks good! Zero regrets with this purchase.
Love. As a hip and trendy college professor I’ve gone through all kinds of bags over the years, messenger bags, totes, backpacks, etc. I fell in love with Evergoods in 2022 when I bought my first panel loader. With the recent xpac drop I knew it was time to upgrade. Move the material, the large side handle and the layout fits my current use case to a t! My 2022 gets a lot of everyday use with work and travel, yet doesn’t even have a scratch! I expect the same and more out of the xpac cpl. buy with confidence. Only thing I’m getting use to is the position of the top grab strap, it is positioned differently than my 2022.
Totally happy with it, you can see it's great quality. Have been using it for a month as EDC (going to work w/ computer and notebook as well as going in the woods under the rain) with no issue, I'm sure it'll last at least 10 years. Have been through heavy rain with it without a single droplet inside. I particularly like the handle on the side, which lets you carry it like a suitcase, very useful in summer when you don't want to sweat on the back.
Only little downside : they don't sell it in grey. Black show dirt or sun cream stains more easily, I have to clean the bag more often than my previous grey one.
Perfect one bag travel backpack. Clamshell opening is a must. Love the side access. Comfy, padded straps feel great on my shoulders. Understated, intentional design. What's not to love?
I was introduced to Evergoods by my Friend which is huge fan of your products. I ordered 16liter pack as I normally was using Patagonia 26 liter and needed smaller pack. When it came first thing I noticed impressive quality of product, how well design it is and with all pockets how good for travel. Since then I ordered more items and planing to order more. This is outstanding brand and product. Greetings from Poland.
I needed a versatile carry on item when flying. This pack more than exceeded my expectations. So much available storage and organization. I wish I located this pack sooner. 5 star quality and craftsmanship.
The CPL is the GOAT of organization. I own 14 backpacks - I acknowledge I may have a problem - none the less the CPL has my favorite organization of any of the bags I've owned. I have the 16L in 840d ballistic nylon, it's an absolutely beautiful bag and feels classic and durable. I love the material. It's my main EDC at this point and the bag I use the most often when heading the beach with my pups or to a local cafe. I really wish it came in a 20L, I know the CTB comes in a 20 as well but the CPL is more streamlined, I love the side access admin pocket and I don't really need a hydration pocket.
Really like the accessibility and design of the CPL24. The two laptop slots are a great utility as a computer engineering student, and can condense everything I need for a 2 day orientation period.
I bought the CPL24 as a birthday gift for my husband. At first, he thought it was a bit pricey, but after using it every day for a week, he told me it was absolutely worth it.
He says it's incredibly comfortable on his shoulders, even when it's fully packed, and there's plenty of room for everything he needs for work. The quality is outstanding, and it looks very professional, making it perfect for the office and business travel.
My Waxed Canvas CPL16 has been my daily driver for months now - fantastic bag. Well made, love the material, and sits comfortably, especially with the sternum strap. Really appreciate the organization and that each of the compartments have their own space.
I have been looking for a new bag for daily commute to the office and after a few iterations with some other brands found this had the perfect balance of durability, comfort and professional look for going into the office. So far its been the perfect bag for a daily commute.
Excellent backpack. Comfortable to wear, and the 24L size is just perfect. Neither too small, nor big. Have used this bag for my travels in Peru and Patagonia, with no complaints.
I snagged the X-PAC edition CPL16 on a whim while on sale and like it! The material looks great - feels more premium than the Aer X-PAC stuff I have, and the bag is a great size for modest EDC loads.
My one issue is that I’m still getting used to tightening and loosening the straps, which I’ve never had to do with a backpack before; the desired high and tight carry for Evergoods bags means I have to tighten the straps a lot, which makes it hard to take off the bag or doff it without loosening the straps first.
It’s stiff and thick yet remarkably lightweight, which means it holds its shape beautifully—something I absolutely love. The Coyote Brown interior is also a fantastic touch. It’s incredibly comfortable on my back, too. Snagging the X-PAC version on sale was definitely the right call. It was worth every penny, even with the proxy shipping fees and customs duties to South Korea.
I found this backpack through online reviews and added it as one of my daily carry . It feels great to wear, with weight distribution that fits the body well—comfortable whether I’m carrying just a few items or a full load. The only downside is that if you’re switching from a bag with lots of compartments, you’ll need to get used to using pouches to organize your items.
★★★★★
I didn't think I was going to like the CPL16 because of the smaller size. Most of my bags tend to be in the 20L to 30L range, and I was worried this would feel cramped. Turns out I was completely wrong.
This has become my dedicated laptop bag. I carry a 15-inch MacBook Air, charger, mouse, cables, battery bank, and a few other accessories, and everything fits comfortably without feeling overstuffed. The smaller footprint actually makes me want to grab it more often because it's so easy to carry around.
The X-Pac material is probably my favorite part. It looks great, feels premium, and has just enough structure to help the bag keep its shape. I know some people prefer traditional fabrics, but I find myself reaching for the X-Pac version every time.
I bought this thinking it would fill a niche in my collection. Instead, it's become one of my most used bags.
