The first 100 days of any new hire on the product team starts at the sewing machine.

No matter the role or seniority, 100 days of sewing in-line styles from the Evergoods catalogue gives everyone on the Product Team a baseline familiarity with our typical product assemblies, materials, construction standards, and documentation.

As a product-first company, this foundation builds a critical link between the work that we do and the product that is the eventual outcome.  So that whether today’s tasks revolve around spreadsheets and calendars, or 2-dimensional flat patterns and yield calculations, or illustrated assembly steps and color approvals, it all relates back to the finished product in a very real way.

Initially, these training projects are strictly by-the-book, using production-approved materials and adhering rigidly to specifications.  But once it feels like our new hires have found their stride, it’s okay to loosen the reins a bit.  Incorporating some exploration keeps it fun and opens new avenues of possibility and learning.  If nothing else, it scratches an itch that most folks have, and pushes over the first domino of downstream items that need to be addressed when a project goes off-spec, reinforcing how all the parts of our production tech pack inter-relate.

Back in December, Daniel was hired as our newest Product Developer. Over the course of his first 100 days he has built a nice sampling of Evergoods primary and accessory products.  This week, he’s constructing CIVIC Access Pouch 1L, and decided to tap into a roll of X-Pac textile that we have on the shelf in Multicam Black (seen pictured).

The samples built during these first 100 days are often sent to the Vault, where the one-of-a-kind variations are displayed (and sometimes offered up to our community).
