Prior to working for Patagonia, Kevin had been a bike messenger in Chicago. Being right-handed, it was critical to be able to utilize his dominant hand while swinging his bag across his left shoulder and maintaining balance on the bike. We took this same principle and engineered the original CPL with it in mind.

Our standard CPL is constructed from a right-hand perspective because we wanted our bags to focus on actually accessing their contents with your right hand. When many bag brands say right-handed, all they mean is that the bag is right-shoulder dominant. We prioritized how you access the bag over what shoulder you carry it from. As such, we oriented the bag to swing across your body on your left shoulder to access external pockets with your dominant right hand.

But, since we launched our original Kickstarter for the Civic Panel Loader seven years ago, we began listening to customer feedback about the bag's orientation.

For the first time ever, in a limited edition of 500 of each size, we've built the CPL Mirror Version. Anyone who has been asking to operate the bag in reverse, (swinging across your right shoulder and for left-hand dominant pocket access), you can now snag our bestseller in the orientation that's best for you.
