Hey there,

The truth is our goal was never to sell expensive backpacks. We dreamed of selling a host of world-class, feature-rich bags for $200 or less. However, our penchant for custom developing our own textiles, utilizing finer materials in our linings and stretch pockets (than many brands use in any part of their bags), and the high-skill level sewing required to construct our 3D patterning by hand comes with costs.

When we began working on PLC20 in 2019, our goal was to make the highest caliber $149 backpack on the market. Insert the above material and design choices and the final FOB cost from the factory would have required we sell it for nearly $199.

The only way to cut any costs without compromising quality would have been to use lesser materials and a simpler build. In fact, we tried that at the last minute and guess what? We did not love the end results. So we owned our higher costs and opted to take a slightly lower margin to get the bag in your hands for $179.

Today, as we launch PLC20 in our signature custom-made balanced ballistic 840D nylon in solution dyed black, we are reminded of that early goal to offer access to a world-class bag at the best price we can offer.

So that is what we are going to do.

Introducing PLC20 in our current, signature materials pallet at $149. Bottom line: We're actively looking to find ways for this to make financial sense (without any sacrifices), but in the meantime, we hope this will help grow the EVERGOODS backpack family.

Onwards,
Jack Barley and Kevin Dee
